Walmart Inc. (Ticker NYSE:wmt, ) announced that the company will release its pickup tower initiative in hundreds of stores by the end of 2018.
The retailer has expanded its online operations in recent years, giving buyers more options as they order items. While the company offered consumers online store and pick up items in stores, it is now offering the possibility of online store and pickup your stuff in a certain place where they should not interact with anyone.
These towers pickup walmart produced more than 500 locations by the end of the year, bringing the total number of stores with towers pickup truck up to 700 then. The idea behind these towers was first brought in last year in one store in Arkansas.
After testing the product in the native state of a company, Walmart decided to add more than a dozen stores in July 2017, followed by the announcement that it would extend the initiative to 100 stores. The tower truck has been popular among consumers, and more than half a million orders were placed on these sites since their introduction.
As things stand, tower pickup can be used only for small items that are placed in lockers that only consumer who made the order can access. In the future, these cabins are larger, able to hold a flat-screen TV and more.
The company’s shares fell on Monday by 0.5%.
