What is a ‘Doctor Juris – j’?
A doctorate, or J. D. is the highest degree of the law in the United States. It was originally designed as a replacement bachelor of laws (ll.B) degree. A doctorate or doctor of jurisprudence (J. D.) degree represents professional recognition that the holder has a doctorate in law. Because of the duration of training in the United States to get a law degree, the name change reflects its status as a professional degree.
Breaking down the ‘Dr J.’
Some schools offer a joint DJ and MBA so that the students can complete the degree in less time than it would take to complete each degree separately. Other combined degree social policy, medicine and bioengineering.

Legal education in the United States

Many law schools offer LL.B. for students admitted without a bachelor’s degree and doctorate for students entering with a bachelor’s degree.
By the beginning of 1960-ies, most students entered law school with a bachelor’s degree. In 1965, the American bar Association (ABA) recommended that the standard of legal education, to be a DJ, and this regulation entered into force by the end of the decade.
Master of laws (ll.M.) the program is an advanced degree usually conducted by a specialist in tax or patent law. A foreign lawyer who wishes to qualify to take the exam in the United States also can pursue a master’s degree in law.
Two-year J. D. degree
Job prospects for lawyers plummeted after the 2008 collapse of the financial market and law school decreased by 24% from 2010 to 2013. With training continues to rise, some schools have looked at cutting. Brooklyn law school, and Pepperdine University among the schools that offer two-year JD option. A limited number of universities allow students to start their first year in law school after third year of College.
