The status 100 is an annual list of the 100 largest U.S. public and private companies published by Fortune magazine. The rating is compiled using gross revenue. The list of 100 Fortune-more than both the Fortune 500 and 1000 lists of Fortune, both of which rank more companies.
Breaking Down The ‘Fortune 100’
The list of 100 does not include a fortune teller, although foreign companies, many listed companies have significant international operations. The list consists of public companies and private companies that report annual income.
The condition of the 100 began in 1955
Fortune first published its annual list of the top revenue company in 1955. First, the editors were stricter on what the business sector was included. From 1955 to 1994, 100 list includes only the state of business in the manufacturing, mining and energy industries. This left many of the top earning companies across the country. The state does not publish separate lists of the Top 50 companies in industry, banks, utilities, insurance, retail and transport.
Fortune 100 in 1955, was headed by “General motors”, a company that is on the top for over 30 years. “General motors” had revenue in the amount of 9.8 billion to top the list. The rest of the top 10 rounded out to Exxon, U.S. steel, General electric, Esmark, Chrysler, armour, Gulf oil, Mobil and DuPont.
Large changes in the Fortune 100, in 1994
In 1994, the state expanded the list of companies to include service companies, opening the door for many newcomers to join. This change added a lot of new companies in the Fortune 100 list and also dramatically increased the amount of annual income that is required to make the prestigious list. The company had to create 10.9 billion dollars of income to make in 1995 in a list of 100 money, compared in 1994, $ 5.3 billion.
